Mom shows off her 1-year-old daughter's ear piercings — people can’t agree if it’s okay or not

In the age of social media, many parents love to share photos of their little ones dressed up in adorable outfits or accessories. However, what some see as cute is seen as over-the-top or unnecessary by others. In one such incident, a mother on TikTok, Molly Ahern (@molly.ahern21), sparked an online discourse after sharing photos that feature her one-year-old daughter wearing golden earrings. Although it was meant to be a cute post, it quickly drew criticism from viewers who felt the jewelry was unnecessary for a child so young.

The video sees the baby girl cuddled up with her mother under a cozy blanket. The overlay text reads, “Treasuring these cuddles cause in 15 years I’m gonna be a ‘fat s**g’ for not letting a drug dealer with one tracksuit and a 3.5 to his name stay in my home with her.” In the caption of the video, the mother humorously wrote, “No boyfriends.” But the caption and text overlay were quickly forgotten by viewers, as New York Post notes. The focus instead shifted to the baby’s earring. The video prompted mixed reactions from social media users.

One TikTok user, @alex.17w, commented, “Okay? But you got her ears pierced, no, that’s still painful. It can damage the surrounding tissue around her ears as well, and you’re expecting people to agree with your opinion to pierce your newborn's ears.” Another person, @okay14193, gently asked, “Babe, just out of general concern, the earrings are gorgeous, but do you take them out at night or when she sleeps? Just don’t want them to get caught on anything.” Similarly, @as.incog chimed in to share their concern. “Are they heavy? Because in some scenarios, especially in a growing baby, it can weigh down the lobes and cause unwanted stretching or looseness, especially if the baby grabs or tugs!”
The mother clarified that the baby never touches her earrings, and she even takes them out just to be cleaned. However, a few others defended the mom as one TikTok user, @savannah_b0113, commented, “I think they're cute, so I don’t get everyone’s problem. Everyone’s just hating because they can’t put their kids in gold.” Similarly, @gwhxxx said, “I’m normally against babies having their ears pierced, but I’m sorry. These are gorgeous, just be careful and make sure she doesn’t pull them!”
After looking at the comments, Ahren clarified that at the time of piercing, her baby was just nine months old and she didn't cry during the process. She clapped back at haters by boldly claiming, "She’s my princess, not yours.” Meanwhile, in another similar incident, a mom on TikTok (@laraticaofficial) ruffled feathers by revealing that she got her baby's ear pierced just a day after she was born. In the video she posted, the baby girl first appears in the hospital wearing tiny stud earrings, followed by another clip where she’s seen with silver hoop earrings. The video gathered similar reactions, with some criticizing the mom, while others defended her decision on cultural and traditional grounds.
