Mom-to-be hosts the perfect gender reveal party — then she remembers her boyfriend is colorblind

As the cannon burst, the woman's boyfriend stood puzzled, squinting upwards at the sky, trying to guess the color.

A mum-to-be went viral on social media for her gender reveal party, but not for the reasons you'd think. She forgot one major detail—her boyfriend is colorblind. The hilarious miss left the internet in stitches. In her TikTok video, Jen Cowan was seen grabbing a confetti cannon for her big gender reveal for family and friends. As the cannon burst, her boyfriend Bailey stood puzzled, squinting upwards at the sky.

Confused, he asked what color it was when it finally dawned on Cowan. As reported by Indy 100, she later recounted, “When the confetti popped and he looked confused, I didn’t understand at first, but then I remembered he was colorblind.” The video, taken in their cozy living room, revealed that the couple was having a baby girl. Cowan laughed hard and gently broke the good news to Bailey, as reported by The Independent.

She further shared, “Bailey is a very laid back person, so I don’t think he was too bothered about not seeing the pink confetti. We have both just laughed about it now. We were both sure I was having a boy, so I think I was more shocked about finding out we were having a baby girl in the gender reveal.” Cowan posted a reaction video on TikTok before going to bed, not thinking much of it since her other videos only got a few likes. In the morning, her phone kept buzzing—her video had gone viral.

She said, “It’s so weird how much attention the video has got, and it is very unexpected. The next morning, I opened my TikTok, and I had 99+ notifications, and that is when I realised it had gone viral. It’s so crazy.” Sharing her excitement about their baby, she added, “When I first found out I was pregnant, I was scared, but now I am just excited. I have always wanted to be a mum ever since I was little. I was very set on being a young mum, too. Our baby girl is due on April 25 this year, and I can’t wait to meet her. She is definitely going to be a girlie girl.”

As gender reveal parties grow popular, they have grown to also get louder and flashier. Hence, Cowan and Bailey sticking to the comforts of their living room was refreshing. In several cases, the push to go bigger has led to surprising—and sadly, even tragic—outcomes. For instance, the USDA Forest Service previously shared a video of patrol agent Dennis Dickey firing at a target to reveal blue or pink powder for the gender reveal party. Instead, it caused an explosion that started the 2017 Sawmill Fire, burning over 45,000 acres and costing more than $8 million, as reported by People magazine.
