Humanity has explored the entire planet and has now ventured out to solve mysteries of the universe, but there are still wonders of nature that leave people astonished and intrigued. India is home to a number of manmade as well as natural sites, which are mysterious as much as they are spectacular. One of those is a waterfall that has water flowing upwards instead of falling downhill, or but there's more to it than what meets the eye. The Naneghat Waterfall located in the southwestern state of Maharashtra is an example of how nature can create an illusion, which is a rare phenomenon in itself.

According to The Economic Times, this waterfall mesmerizes visitors with its spectacular beauty especially during the onset of monsoon when many campers and trekkers flock around the area. The lush green site is battered by strong winds during this season and that's the main reason why the water flowing down from the waterfall appears as if it's being pushed towards the sky. Many people visiting the Naneghat Waterfall had previously filmed the unbelievable sight and shared it on social media. One of the most popular videos with over 400,000 views was shared on X by @wonderofscience.

People in the X community who have never heard or seen this waterfall expressed their surprise. @PoseidonBlind referred to the Nickelodeon animation "The Last Airbender" and joked," Nah, someone's just water-bending." @DracoHexG wondered, "Are the winds strong enough to push you back up while parachuting?" @Hnyb09Bee shared, "The Western Ghats (mountain ranges) are very beautiful with numerous waterfalls, thousands of animal species including at least 325 globally threatened species. The hill ranges constitute important wildlife corridors such as Project Elephant and Project Tiger reserves." @HagelAaron added, "It's awesome to see nature in all its glory."

The Outlook Traveller shared some details on how one can reach the Naneghat Waterfall easily. "Naneghat is located 150 km from Mumbai and 150 km from Pune. From there, hail a bus to Junnar, and head to Vaishakhare village in a private cab. If you wish to embark on the trek, the village is the base. However, you can also reach the Naneghat reverse falls by car," the website read. The rocky landscape is a haven for seasoned trekkers who can also explore the Malshej Ghat trek or the Bhairavgad trek close to the waterfall.

However, the Naneghat Waterfall isn't the only waterfall in India or the world that appears to be inverted, since there are other locations such as the Samrad Village Falls which is located at a height of 2000 feet in the Sandhan Valley of Maharashtra, as per HT School. There are also two other reverse waterfalls like the Kavalshet Point Falls in the district of Belgaum, situated on Amboli hills, and Anjaneri Falls in Nashik, where the water is regarded as divine.

Beyond India, such waterfalls can be found in the Royal National Park of Australia, Cliffs of Moher in Ireland, Waipuhia Falls in Hawaii, Rjukandi Waterfalls in Iceland, Furepe Falls in Japan, Kinder Downfall in England, Maule River in Chile and Smoke Waterfalls in Brazil.
