The internet is captivated by what this woman did to a swimming pool hidden underneath her house

People have unearthed all kinds of weird and somewhat scary things under their houses from cellars to tunnels and even mass graves. But when Emily Henry, who goes by @funkyglassworks on TikTok, stumbled into a swimming pool right underneath her property, the video of the discovery stacked up 12 million views online. According to her official website, Henry is a glass artist who has settled in a small Ozark Town in Arkansas. She has been working on opening a public glass studio to share her passion and teach glass-art to her new community.

So when Henry decided to film the process of renovating a spare room in her family's home, she realized that there was something hidden underneath the floorboards. It didn't take her long to discover a pool and a hot tub beneath the floors and she shared her discovery with the online audience. At first, she can be seen ripping off the floorings and subflooring in the room which she claims, "took her forever." She and her family eventually decided to transform the space into an atrium. "Although lots of you wanted to see this restored into a pool," Henry said in a second video, "We decided that being surrounded by these crystal clear lakes and being such outdoorsy people, it wouldn't make sense for us to have an indoor pool."

Henry and her family wanted to fill the pool with stained glass and add plants to build a small koi pond. "We're going to get so much use out of this room, and I literally cannot wait to have a place to escape to," she added. In a third video, she showed her viewers how she had installed a small stream of running water to create a mini waterfall in the space. Henry added some soil around the pond and some plants for a finishing touch.

She continued to post more videos to document the evolution of the pool from when its sudden discovery to its new look after refurbishment. The TikTok community was left baffled at what Henry had found but also left tons of comments praising the renovation she had pulled off. Some people suggested Henry to "turn it into a conversation pit like people used to have in the 60’s and 70’s and they can even project movies on the deeper part of the pool's wall." Another person mentioned that they should be careful with the material that was used to build the pool since vermiculite before 1990 was contaminated with asbestos.

@earthlings311 suggested, "If you are turning that into a pond, seriously consider building an aquaponics system to grow your own food." @2003bernie joked, "The realtor must be sobbing right now. An indoor pool would‘ve made the house much more valuable!" @eg6m wrote, "A lot of older houses had pools inside that were just boarded over instead of being removed because it's cheaper." @duckytktk noted, "That was an outside pool once. Previous owners probably wanted an extra room so they probably built over it."
