At a time when childhood trauma is known to influence behavior later in life, thoughtful parenting can make all the difference in a child's life. When a 5-year-old boy was angry, his mom, Destiny Bennett from Las Vegas, handled the situation very calmly, helping him work through his over-the-top emotions. One morning, the little boy, Cash, seemed to be a little irritated, his anger overflowing. So chose to have a quiet heart-to-heart conversation with her son, assuring him of all the love. However, what she didn't expect was that their conversation was captured by her front door camera.

Bennett shared the video on her social media and revealed what happened with her son. During the day when the video was captured, Cash got upset after a fight with his older brother over a LEGO piece. He wanted it, but his brother said it was special and claimed it. The little boy stayed angry for about 30 minutes, and none of Bennett’s usual ways to calm him worked that day. She eventually asked him to take a walk with her to cool down, but Cash then threw a toy and slammed the door, frustrating Bennett. However, after scolding him, she spoke to him with love, as reported by Bored Panda.

In the video, Bennett was heard saying, “I love you very much. Do you know how much I love you? You don’t know how much? I love you more than this much. [extends arms]. I can see how angry you are. And I want you to feel better. I want you to love yourself enough to see how angry you are and want to feel better. Okay?” She added, “Sometimes feeling better is getting the things that we want, but sometimes we can’t get the things we want. And it’s okay to be angry. But then we have to be able to let it go and understand that we’re not going to get it, and we have to find another way to make our body feel better. I need you to love you. Okay? I love you. Let’s have a good day today, okay?”

Bennett’s approach was also praised by several other social media users, as one Instagram user, @jacquelinefford, commented, “Great great job modeling healthy problem solving without creating false hope. How blessed is your son to have you!! Not to mention the life lessons he is learning and will teach your grandchildren!” Another person, @b1rds_flyhigh, wrote, “I’m crying! This is beautiful - validating his feelings while also explaining the motions of those feelings and getting them under control. Wow.” Similarly, @socouturetiff chimed in and said, “This was truly the definition of a mother's love! Thank you for sharing this. Thank you.”

Bennett further revealed that she often has these kinds of talks with her kids. Even though long talks aren’t always best when they’re upset, she believes that it was the strong communication that helped her son understand the situation well that day. The mom also said that she constantly reminds the kids that they’re loved. Bennett went on to share that her youngest son is the most emotional of her three boys. When he gets upset, he holds onto his feelings, which can make his anger last longer and feel even frustrated.
