This toddler's first meeting with his newborn sister went in a direction the parents did not see coming

When a little boy, Theodore Diglio, met his newborn sister, Esmé, for the first time, his reaction was hilarious. Things went quite differently from his parents' expectations for the big reveal. The boy showed no excitement, resulting in a few giggles among the family. Theodore's mother, Victoria Diglio (@victoriaadiglio), shared a video of the same on social media on April 18, 2025. Soon, it went viral, as netizens filled the comments section with guesses of what the little boy might be thinking about his sister.

In the video, Theodore was left speechless, looking at Esmé as she rested in her mother's arms. As reported by Newsweek, Victoria said, "We expected him to welcome her with open arms or dismissive! He is still so young, so we knew he wouldn't process what a 'sister' was, but his reaction definitely took us by surprise." As the mom waited for a response, Theodore gave his little sister a long, serious stare, as if thoughts were racing in his little mind. In the captions of her TikTok video, Victoria remarked, "Not the introduction I was expecting.”

In response, a TikTok user, @dmoncus, commented, “He's like seriously, as long as that baby has been in your belly and it's this small, we can't play, we can't run, what's the use.” Another person, @jennieshulman, quipped, “Don’t worry, the week after my parents brought me home, my sister told my mom it’s time to return the baby…now the girl cannot make an outfit choice without consulting me.” @lauralye.bowman also shared, “Poor little guy is thinking he’s not the baby anymore. My oldest acted like that, too. Make sure to show him extra love, and give one-on-one time with mommy and daddy the first month.”
In a similar vein, @okayok080, joked, “He saw his entire inheritance immediately split in half. Of course, he’s not happy.” Things, luckily, took a turn for the better later. In a follow-up video, shared five days later, Theodore seemed to have warmed up to his sister as he was seen lovingly holding Esmé on his lap and kissing her forehead. It was proof that the connection between the siblings was already getting stronger. Victoria also shared that he now enjoys kissing his baby sister and takes care of her by feeding her and giving her a pacifier when she needs it.

In another heart-touching video posted on TikTok by a mom, Mackenzie Molina, Judah, a 17-month-old baby, looked at his newborn sister, equally at a loss for words. Then he whispered 'hi' to his two-day-old sister. The moment held even more significance for the parents, as they hadn’t yet learned that Judah was profoundly deaf. The boy, whom his mom lovingly describes as incredibly intuitive, sensitive, and affectionate, captured hearts online with his sweet response.
