Woman asks her boyfriend to buy 'pads with wings' — what he brings home has everyone in splits

It’s the 21st century, and men (not all men) still struggle with limited knowledge about menstruation and feminine hygiene products. Case in point, a woman had sent her boyfriend out to buy pads with a specific instruction. TikTok user Anna (@annabasile) had asked her partner to fetch her “pads with wings” from the store. His interpretation of it left the internet in splits, making for a viral moment that testifies to the need for greater awareness around menstruation.

In the video, a family member stood there in the kitchen corner, laughing their heart out when Anna’s boyfriend returned with the product. “Those are pads. I won't buy if I don’t know. She said, ‘pads with wings’,” the poor boyfriend explained himself, clueless about the fuss around his shopping blunder. As she panned the camera over the items, it was revealed that the man had taken the liberty of buying daily liner pads and a box of chicken wings separately– his version of “pads with wings.” Not too bad, though.

He did not receive a lecture from her girlfriend but was asked for some clarification on the kind of wings Anna wanted. “These are her wings. These are pads,” he said. “Did you think those were the ones you wanted?” the family member asked Anna. Confident in his choices, the boyfriend replied, “I’m sure. And I was like, 'Should I get ranch? But I knew she had ranch.'” Anna cracked up throughout the video, later captioning the video, “Dude, I’m dying.”

The hilarious snippet was viewed an eye-popping 13.3 million times and received 1.9 million hearts on the internet. People reacted to the situation with a mix of comments about the boyfriend’s efforts. One person (@xo.star.kitten) wrote, “This isn’t even incompetence, he genuinely tried.” Another (@chilidawgggg) lauded, “People think this was incorrect. It is genius.” Similarly, a third viewer (@stonedjesus98) supported, “He's a little confused, but his heart's in the right place.”

Several women in the comments were more impressed and annoyed. “I wouldn’t even be mad. Got the pads and a snack? Perfect,” noted @stacebrewer while @steph054640 said, “Naw girl, you had to know he wasn't gonna get that one right. But honestly, what he came back with is completely acceptable, maybe even better.” Replying to one of the comments, the TikTok creator confirmed that the man also brought flowers for her, her mom, and sister as well. “He’s a king,” Anna added. “I think this is the sweetest and funniest thing ever,” a comment by @midnightmarrs13 read.

According to a study commissioned by INTIMINA, an international women’s healthcare brand, and YouGov, 1,091 males in the U.S. were surveyed about their knowledge of menstrual cycles. Only 41% of men could correctly identify the natural biological process. When asked about their idea of what having a period feels like, 36% of men said it would not affect women, while the rest 40% noted physical pain as a key attribute. "This survey highlights the continued need for more work to be done to educate the masses about menstruation, a very natural process and sign of health and fertility," said Dr. Alyssa Dweck, the brand’s Sexual and Reproductive Health expert.
