Family and friends act as an important support system for a person dealing with heartbreak as these are times when one needs words of affirmation. This is exactly what worked for Jessica McGann (@coachedbyjess on TikTok) who parted ways with her ex after a 4-year-long relationship. The process of moving on was difficult for her but she did not shy away from opening up about it in a powerful video. Jessica hopes to help people embrace change and seek fulfillment even after parting ways with someone they have once loved. She overcame the pain of separation thanks to the loving advice that her father Dan gave her, and now she is sharing it with the world.

"My partner of 4 years and I just separated and over the weekend, I moved into my new apartment in the city," Jessica says at the start of her video. "It's been rough. But something my father said to me really helped me and I am hoping that it will help any of you who might be going through something similar." “You know what else is painful? Being born. You’re going through a rebirth and that’s gonna be painful,” Jessica recalled her father's words. “I just thought this view of it was really beautiful. It helped me feel less like I was crumbling or breaking," she tearfully added. "I was able to see it more like I’m expanding and I'm growing and changing for the better."

The people in her comment section found her father's words extremely encouraging and they left a bunch of positive words for her. @aytiwaring wrote, "Sometimes when you're in a dark place you think you've been buried but you've been planted." @kledog commented, "I’m going through the same thing. It’s rough stuff. About your dad talking about being born. I looked at your comments and it was in 1968 - the year I was born! Stay strong. I feel you!" @redlady_76 added, "My divorce was the hardest thing I ever had to go through, but not as hard as staying in a marriage full of disrespect. It gets better I promise."

While talking to PEOPLE, Jessica, who works as a TV producer and content creator, recalled reaching out to her dad the first night after spending time alone in her apartment. "I had been up all night in emotional turmoil that was so overwhelming it manifested physically, and by morning I knew I was at a point where I needed help," she revealed. "When I reached out, my father was there without hesitation, bringing groceries and essential kitchen items to help me start over. He sat and listened to me as I cried for hours, got me outside and moving, cooked me soup, and held me so I could fall asleep."

"I feel very grateful to call him my dad," she added. “One thing I’m really passionate about is de-stigmatizing how we view and talk about mental health, and one of the ways I do that Is through sharing my own experiences. When I and my ex decided to part ways, I knew this transition would be a challenging one and that I wanted to channel this experience into something helpful for others."

Jessica admitted to the outlet that she may not have completely healed from her break-up but happiness is within reach. “I've certainly seen better days, but I'm taking it one day at a time. The support from my family and friends has been incredible, and I feel deeply moved by how many people have found solace in my content," she mentioned. "It's a reminder that even in tough times, we're not alone and I’m so over the moon that my content is doing exactly what I had intended it to, helping others through their own healing."
