Gentle parenting has gained a lot of prominence in recent years as more and more parents are practising a calm and compassionate approach for raising their children. However, one woman on TikTok (@ben_affleck_isanok_actor), who identifies herself as a comedian, is going viral for her rant on gentle parenting, which has struck a chord with many. Her one-and-a-half-minute video is met with laughter, agreement and even a bit of pushback from those who seem offended. However, the video was intended to be witty and honest, shedding light on modern parenting.

The video begins with the woman saying, "I don't care how much hate I get for this; we can tell if you gentle parent your kids. They scream, they hit, they throw sh*t, and then you're like, 'Oh wow, you're really big on your feelings right now.'" She then shared an incident where she saw a kid throwing a fork at his mom's face at a restaurant. But the mom just said, "We don't express frustration like that." This appears to have irritated the video creator, as she went on to mock the parents who try to gentle parent their kids. She said, "You don't raise accountability by asking, 'Do you feel safe enough to not throw the remote at grandma?'"

The woman further said that if the parents think they're raising a free thinker by not teaching them about the consequences, they're wrong. She labeled such kids a "full-grown tapeworm." She further recommended that parents set firm boundaries by grounding their kids, taking away their privileges, and even raising their voice occasionally when the behavior crosses the line. Moving ahead, the lady said, "They [kids] are called dependents for a reason. They depend on us to make sure they don't become a sh**ty adult."

Social media users were quick to jump into the comments to share their two cents on this. One TikTok user, @dee508523, commented, “Too true! You can do proper parenting without abusing them! The parents are to blame! They don't want to do the hard part of being a parent!” Seconding the above comment, another user, @jenblueeyes, said, "Don't apologize! You are speaking the absolute truth." A third person, @jaybaybay42, wrote, “As a nurse, I just want to say we see the products of 'no consequences' in some of the adults we treat today. It’s wild. And it just trickles down. Make it stop.” @brianrobinson0507 joked, “I'm glad you and I don't live in the same town. There would be two of us telling people to control their children.”

Supporting the lady's argument, one parent, @countrygirlcrochets, commented, “I was not a gentle parent! I disciplined my boys, and now they are functioning adults. All through school, I got compliments on how well-behaved, polite, and young men I had. Because they knew better.” Despite all the criticism, many parents believe that gentle parenting helps raise kids who are strong, respectful, and independent. But it’s also important to remember that every child is different. What works for one may not work with another, so parents need to be flexible and find what fits best for their child.
