The only thing more complex than the human anatomy is a baby’s. While most adults are aware of fundamental body biology, a growing baby is a whole different ballgame. TikTok couple, Shelby and Dylan (@shelbyanddyl), went viral on the internet for their hilarious interaction about their baby son’s kneecaps. When she told the new father that babies do not have kneecaps, neither does their son, Dylan was shocked. Shelby filmed her husband’s funny reaction after she enlightened him with the fact, and could not resist sharing it with the world. The post received a whopping 7.2 million hearts.

“Are you sure?!” quipped the 29-year-old father while holding up his baby. Shelby affirmed, “I’m positive.” The look on Dylan’s face got her cracking up and on the internet. He followed it up with a slew of hilarious dad jokes about his son’s uncapped knees. “Well, I’ll be. Kids don’t have kneecaps,” he declared, crossing his arms. He gawked at his son in disbelief. When he cried, Dylan reacted with another joke. “Don’t whine just ‘cause you ain’t got kneecaps,” he belts out. His wife laughed from behind the camera, claiming, “That’s not why he’s whining.”

By now, Dylan had let the ‘no kneecap’ information sink in. But his jokes barely stopped. “I’ve been trying to figure out this whole time why he walks like that.” When his wife inquired, “Walks like what?” Without missing a beat, the dad retorted, “Like he ain’t got no kneecaps!” He was rather baffled by the fact that he did not know about this all along, even at 29. Expectedly, Dylan had some questions. The dad, who loved his son, wanted to know what kids have to replace the kneecap. “Nothing. It’s just open,” Shelby chimed. This became another opportunity for Dylan to land a dad joke.

“Whenever I coach his Little League team, does that mean it’d be disrespectful if I ask the children to take a knee. If I ask them to take a knee, would they be like, ‘How?’ or ‘What knee?’” The mother explained that their son will “officially” have a kneecap by 10. Even then, Dylan was perplexed how babies could go a decade without the support of a kneecap. “Couldn’t be me!” he joked, pulling a sarcastic face. Meanwhile, Shelby captioned the post, “It only took him nearly 30 years to find this out.” Naturally, the comments were filled with humor and laughter.

One person (@adventureswithashtin) wrote, “Me, immediately going to stare at my kids’ knees.” While another (@blay.smith) comforted Dylan, and said, “Don’t feed bad Dylan! I’m 32 and have 3 children, and didn’t know of this information.” @itsmeadam16 joked, “How can they sing head, shoulders, knees and toes now. It’s just head, shoulders, toes.” A fellow viewer, @olivia120120, explained, “It’s cartilage! That’s why adults have more bones than kids! Some bones are cartilage when we’re younger!” Dr. Eric Edmonds of Rady Children’s Hospital revealed that babies do have kneecaps, but they are made up of cartilage, which will eventually turn into bone between the ages of 2 and 6– a slow process called ossification, per Healthline
