Gen-Z couple have a monthly ritual that helps them 'never' have an argument in their relationship

They say wisdom comes with age, but this Gen Z couple is already inspiring couples with their wise take on nurturing relationships. George Hearn, who goes by @georgie_hearn on TikTok, hasn’t had an argument with his girlfriend Ellie for the past two and a half years. He credits it to their healthy communication, which is a result of a relationship ritual worth giving a try. Hearn and Ellie do monthly check-ins on their relationship and how both parties are doing based on three key aspects: Glows, Grows, and Goals. Their friends noted the successful relationship the couple shared and encouraged Hearn to break down their “monthly relationship review” in a now-viral video with 1.7 million views.

Originally from the U.K., Hearn resides in Australia with his girlfriend. A Cambridge University, he worked in the corporate world as a strategy consultant for four years in London until his career took a “fulfilling” turn. In the viral snippet, Hearn outlined what their monthly reviews entailed and how they do it to foster a healthy and happy relationship with set boundaries. “Ellie and I do our reviews every month on our ‘mensiversary’...it’s not a performance review or test. It’s just a check-in where we talk through three things,” he said. The foremost aspect is “glows.” The couple shares things they’ve appreciated in their partner over the past month to speak each other’s love languages, in contrast to the self-involved approaches most abide by.

“I see a lot of people in relationships do is continue giving what they’d like to receive…and that is a mismatch of love languages,” explained Hearn, who admitted to being guilty of doing it. This easy check-in helps them fall back on what each partner desires from the other. The second aspect is “grows,” where the couple focuses on what to do more of in the upcoming days. “It’s not negative, it’s constructive.” This aspect allows them to openly express their feelings and creates a safe space to confront and work on their problems. “The key here is to listen and fully give each other space to talk,” Hearn added.

For the third and final key factor of the relationship advice, the couple checks their progress on their shared goals for the year. As they build their lives together, Hearn and Ellie do want to accomplish goals together that enrich their relationship and help them grow together. At the end of their monthly reviews, the couple feels positive and rejuvenated about their progress. “While it may sound overly formal or corporate, I’d say it’s a game changer,” a part of the post’s caption stated. Though the post was liked by 112,000 people, it was not all cheers and support in the comments. “What’s your KPI’s going into next quarter?” mocked @andrewgunn08 and @pricel4596 said, “Don’t forget to circle back to summarise at the end.”
@georgie_hearn Every month, Ellie and I sit down for a review where we check in and go through 3 things: 1️⃣- Glows We share what we’ve appreciated over the past month, which helps us get clear pictures of each other’s love languages 2️⃣- Grows We share what we want to do more of in a constructive way 3️⃣- Goals We check in on our shared goals for the year While it might sound overly formal or corporate, I’d say it’s a game changer and plays a big part in the fact that we’ve never had an argument in 2.5 years 🤝 Given we review our work, fitness, finances and so on, it seems bizarre to me not to give the same level of commitment to our relationships I’m by no means an expert, but I’d highly recommend giving it a go if you want to build a more intentional relationship or even just as a quick check in #relationshipgoals #fyp #foryoupage #monthlyreview #communication #selfgrowth #youngprofessional#personaldevelopment #personalgrowth #motivation #mindset #inspiration #success #selflove #growthmindset #lifecoach #growth #selfcare #leadership #mindfulness #goals #coaching #selfimprovement #entrepreneur #selfdevelopment #business #lifecoaching #motivationalquotes #selfhelp #successmindset #positivevibes #empowerment ♬ Riptide - 𝙇𝙭𝙪𝙞𝙨𝙨𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙙𝙯 🫶🏻
However, Hearn, who has now transitioned from corporate to a full-time life coach, is barely affected by the negative responses. "These people don't know me and were often saying offensive things, and so are not the type of people whose opinions I value,” he told Newsweek. He does believe that the world would be a better place with more successful and healthy relationships if men did not view empathy and the expression of feelings as against masculinity.
