Mom films her baby boy's hair growth for 18 months — and the internet has plenty of questions

Every now and then, a baby video will surface on social media and depict them in hilarious or odd situations. But this 18-month-old baby just had to be born to go viral. Recently, a nursing student, Naya ‘J’chelle’ Perry (@jchellestryingherbest), introduced her son, Lucio, to the internet, and people are obsessed with his one special birth gift– a head of beautiful, dark hair. His mother, J’chelle, gave a quick rundown of her son’s hair growth over the months to its present form, quite in disbelief.

Inspired to create the video from another creator, surprised by his baby’s head of hair, J’chelle begins, “I am the mommy to an 18-month-old named Lucio, and he is known for his hair.” She shared that his extraordinary hair had been noticed since the time he was born. “When I gave birth to him in the operating room…the second he came out of my belly, the first thing they said was, ‘Oh my God, his hair!” The mom presented a picture of her son, only three hours old, with her brother, and the head of shiny, sleek hair was hard not to notice on a child. “You see all that hair he’s got on his scalp? This is what we call the ‘placenta perm.’”

At two weeks old, Lucio’s beautiful hair grew into a thicker, darker bundle. The mother revealed that her son’s hair had eventually curled up, but continued to grow even at three months old. Within a year, adorable Lucio was up on his feet, flaunting luscious curly hair flowing over his shoulders. For the big reveal, J’chelle promised that the viewers were not ready for her son’s hair growth at 18 months. Lucio walks in dressed in a bright orange T-shirt, but beautiful, curly locks take center stage. “His hair gives Farrah Fawcett circa 1978. He has made hair, y’all,” the mother quipped.

While the mane of dark locks is admirable on a child so young, J’chelle admitted it was a challenge styling his hair, which was curly on the front and straighter in the back. “My 18-month-old basically has a 24-inch body with a bust down from the scalp,” J’chelle mused, while hand-combing Lucio’s hair. Finally, the mother took a moment to note that she would not cut his hair until Lucio is old enough to decide it for himself. "I believe that little boys are allowed to have long hair, too! And, in all honesty, he just looks so adorable with it!" she told Newsweek, Furthermore, the mom clarified that the baby is not Samoan. The video received 1.4 million hearts and thousands of comments discussing the boy’s hair.

@aishanichole222 said, “Get that baby a shampoo contract,” and @sally70676 joked, “Girl, you’re wig is secured.” Some people had second thoughts about him not being Samoan. “What do you mean he’s not Samoan? Lil’ man is more Hawaiian than anybody cast in live action, Lilo & Stitch,” wrote @juliothefoolio. “3 hours old with that much hair?” wrote an excited viewer (@whotfsaidthat) in all caps.
