Mom secretly films her son's actions toward his autistic sister — and people call him a 'gentleman'

Sibling love is one of the purest forms of affection. The presence of siblings in early childhood plays a crucial role in fostering social and emotional intelligence. A TikTok mom, Sam, who goes by @samninawolf, posted a touching video of her two kids sharing a beautiful moment that reflected the parenting and environment in their home. However, Sam’s children are extraordinary in their own right. Her elder child, daughter Nina, is autistic, and her young son, Wolf, is incredibly aware of her sibling’s needs. Their sensitive dynamic struck a chord with people on the internet, amassing 2 million views.

Sam secretly filmed her kids, Wolf and Nina, who were huddled together on the couch, probably watching TV, when a striking incident occurred between the kids. Wolf, as he relished a chocolate bar, thoughtfully shared it with his big sister. He took turns to hand her a piece and then gobble up one himself. “Nina, Wolf, Nina’s,” the adorable boy says. At one point, Nina drops her bit of chocolate on the couch, which Wolf patiently picks up and hands back to her. “I secretly recorded how my son acts towards his autistic big sister when I’m not there, and it shocked me,” a note on the video stated.

Although the younger one, Wolf, patiently consoles his sister when she fusses. He tries to calm down Nina by calling her name many times, trying to co-regulate her emotions. Wolf carefully fixes the blanket on his sister to keep her warm, all while smothering her with hugs and kisses. In the final seconds, Nina appears gleeful, and her younger brother copies her stimming, ending the video on a heartwarming note. Honestly, the wisdom in the boy is what caught people’s attention, with most crediting his kindness and their sibling bond to their parents and home environment.

Receiving 173,000 hearts, the video received ardent messages from people hailing the parents for raising their boy right. “Don’t you ever, ever, question yourself as a mother,” wrote @sophiejayne_24 while @sugeilygrmn penned, “My heart is bursting by this sweetness, well done mummy!” “The siblings are just unreal with their autistic sibling. My son is sooo amazing with his autistic brother. It’s so special,” said @tash.jakes.

Similarly, @dblock_98 shared, “Just a testament to how he’s being raised. Well done, mumma. That boy’s being taught to be a gentleman.” Indeed, the video was a testament to the love the siblings receive at home and learn from the adults. “Saying her name to get her attention instead of doing something that would overwhelm her more, is just such a good touch of how empathetic he is,” rightly said @haonml. This is not a behavior a child learns by themself, but is rather imprinted on by the relationship with their parents.

However, growing up with a sibling with special needs, like autism, can predispose a kid to feeling neglected or invisible, a term called “glass child,” per a report by the Cleveland Clinic Health Essentials. This usually revolves around the child stepping into early caregiving duties with their parents to cater to the needs of the special sibling.
