New mom asks husband to take photos of her during childbirth — then she noticed what he captured

In today’s era, photos are integral to validating every human experience. Mind you, not just photos, but good ones. A mom who gave birth to her first child was disappointed in her husband’s photographic flair after having high expectations for her candid pregnancy and postpartum photoshoot in 2022. Taylor Silva, who goes by @taylorrenaysilva on TikTok, enlightened the internet with the inspiration she was going for, followed by the real pictures her husband took of her during childbirth. Hoping for a more presentable look on her, Silva expressed her distaste for the set of photos but thanked her better half for making the effort.

A note on the compilation of her inspo and actual photos stated, “Pictures I wanted my husband to get during labor and delivery (and) what I got.” The first few photos featured ideal moments of a relaxed mother holding her baby with a smile on her face. Easy to figure out, the pictures were staged. While Silva had not expected to get accurate copies of the inspiration, she hoped for some resemblance. However, the set of pictures that followed the reality on the ground. Her husband captured candid moments as Silva went through the intensive stages of labor. Unsurprisingly, the pictures did not turn out to be aesthetically pleasing, but documented the raw nature of childbirth.

“It’s the wet rag on my forehead for me,” the TikTok user captioned the post, hinting at one of the pictures where she lay on her hospital bed with a cloth on her forehead to help her relax. In the final image, Silva is seen sipping on coffee in a wheelchair with her baby on her lap. “I didn't bring any makeup to the hospital, but I wasn't expecting to look that bad. I wasn't trying to be a glam girl, but I wanted to look presentable. I wish I had brushed my hair,” Silva admitted to TODAY. The motive behind the candid photoshoot headed by her husband was to send it to family members not allowed in the labor room.

Silva recalled being in labor for 43 hours, and by the time of delivery, she was exhausted. “It was the worst and best day of my life because I was in so much pain." She told her husband that the pictures were “terrible” but thanked him for the effort. However, the mother is keen on making a comeback after her second baby. While Silva was unimpressed by the photos, the video caught the wind and garnered 2.4 million views and 128,000 hearts from strangers online. People tried to encourage her by highlighting how the pictures captured the essence of childbirth. A few others shared similar experiences.

@small_dama said, “I got a bunch of double chin pics and a pic of me in a diaper.” While @manderskaysimo revealed, “I’m unconscious in our first family photos, so I feel you.” “Back in 1981, my husband’s only job was to take photos of the birth. He took them with the lens cap on. Still married though,” @marymalone07 mused. A photographer (@boo.boo.ninny) commented, “As a photographer, I can tell you the first photos are completely fake.”
