Woman quits her 9-to-5 job and heads to the Amazon jungle — then a unique love story began

A woman from Australia lived her real-life Tarzan love story after she fell in love with a native Ecuadorian from the Amazon forest. Jordan Hauenschild had no idea one of her usual doom-scrolling sessions on Instagram would turn her life around, take her to a country on the other side of the world, and spark a romantic connection like never before. Besides their unconditional love, the couple’s dynamic resonated with millions of people on the internet, shedding light on cross-cultural love stories, as reported by news.com.au, per the New York Post.

Hauenschild was scrolling through her explore page when she stumbled upon Pitiuruk’s profile, a 24-year-old native Ecuadorian man living a primitive life under the green cover of the Amazon. Intrigued by his way of life, she messaged him in admiration of his culture and was curious to learn more about it. “I was just doing the late-night doom scroll before bed, and I came across this gorgeous man who was posting incredible content over in a country I knew nothing about,” said the Aussie woman, who goes by @jordankh_ on TikTok. She was struck by how people “still live this way of life.” With scarce knowledge of the Amazonian tribes, Hauenschild realized it was time to learn more.

In the message, Hauenschild wrote about how “gorgeous” Pitiuruk was and that she was immensely drawn to his culture and lifestyle. Always open to new experiences, the woman did not realize that Pitiuruk would become her greatest of all. “You never know, you might just end up finding the magic you never knew existed. Mine just so happened to be on the other side of the world, in a country I’d never heard of, and I don’t speak the language of,” she added. Pitiuruk responded in a moment, and the duo got to chatting.

Initially, the Aussie, who led a Western life in Queensland, was in disbelief that she was talking to a man from the Amazon, who lived in a hut in the Pastaza province in Amazonian Ecuador. In the days after, the two continuously shared their ordinary ways of life and compared how different they were. “I would show him my bedroom, the fact that we have a bathroom, and my front and backyard – just the little things. And he would walk me through a day in his life living in the Amazon, which is pretty unique.” This “surreal” experience shaped her opinions about life in Ecuador, and before she knew it, Hauenschild found herself hopping on a flight to South America.

After quitting her 9-5 office job, Hauenschild booked a trip to Peru, Argentina, and Brazil, but made sure she squeezed in her new friend in the itinerary. Eventually, Pitiuruk arranged for her to visit his family home, 5 hours away from the capital city of Quito in Ecuador. She had supposedly been in a daze all this while. As the plane landed in Quito, the gravity of the situation hit Hauenschild suddenly, having second thoughts about her hurried adventure. “I had gone on a whim with a ‘why not’ attitude, and I was about to meet someone I had never seen in real life,” she noted. However, fate had other plans for her.

The duo clicked on their first meeting while Hauenschild could barely wipe the smile off her face. It is worth noting that they spoke different languages but understood each other through body language. “If the spark is there, it doesn’t matter if you can’t speak each other’s language,” the Aussie woman admitted. After a wholesome two weeks in Ecuador, filled with love, laughter, and adventure, it was time for her to go back home. Recently, Pitiuruk flew thousands of miles to explore Australia with his lady love, per his Instagram post. Aviation company, Flight Centre, acknowledged their romance and offered to fund Hauenschild’s next flight to Ecuador.
