Woman thinks she's going to a theater show for a normal date night — her partner had other plans

Love is not complicated when expressed with authenticity. When a woman was invited to a theater show by her boyfriend, she hoped it to be nothing more than an ordinary date night. Elise Turnbull, who goes by @eliseypeach on TikTok, could not hold back her tears when she saw her friends and family frolicking on the stage and figured out what was about to happen. Her boyfriend, Jacob Houston, had planned a beautiful proposal that spoke to Turnbull and also included all her dear ones to be a part of it.

Turnbull, who hails from Australia, was engrossed in her phone as the curtains opened. She was rather surprised to see her friends performing a rendition of The Nightman Cometh from It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia, the popular sitcom. The woman grinned, but as soon as she realized where the show was heading, an emotional look consumed her face. Her eyes frantically looked for her boyfriend, and she began crying happy tears. Fair to say, the casting was on point, complete with costumes and makeup.

As the show went on, Turnbull sat tight with teary eyes, occasionally bursting with joy and laughter. In the final bit, her boyfriend entered the scene in a yellow costume, singing and dancing, to play his character and invite his partner to the stage. “Will you come on stage?” he sang. Turnbull left her seat, and as she stepped onto the stage, her boyfriend got down on his knees to propose with a ring. Overwhelmed with joy, Turnbull nodded in agreement and leaned in for a warm embrace. “I thought my partner was taking me to a theatre show, but turns out he was actually proposing to me, with the help of our friends and family,” a part of her caption stated.

The woman treasured the moment by posting it on her TikTok page, attracting 3.5 million views and 462,000 likes. People had different insights to share and lauded the boyfriend for planning a proposal so special. One person (@lickityspitity) said, “Genuinenly can’t think of a better proposal, OMG, and the casting is so great.” While another thoughtful note by @scottie_le stated, “I’m sorry, but this is some of the most true work and thought put into a proposal I’ve ever seen. It’s also a fantastic rendition of a horrible and awful fake play from a fabulous show. Bravissimo.”

Someone else (@iveynook) was curious about the time and energy put into the play. “How long did it take to rehearse this? It’s word for word.” “Ladies, if he doesn’t stage a full production of The Nightman Cometh to propose, he ain’t worth it,” wrote @haunted.tuber. Most commenters were highly impressed by the proposal. “I hope the cast of It’s Always Sunny gets to see this,” noted @christrepadation and @angieamericana said, “This is absurdly romantic in the most unhinged way ever.” According to People, her now-fiancé, Houston, took her to the Eltham Little Theater in Australia to watch The Mikado, an opera by Arthur Sullivan. Apparently, he had rented the whole theater that night and excused himself to go to the bathroom. The rest is history.
