Woman with no kids bought a $70 bassinet for an unusual reason — and it worked out perfectly

Furry friends make our home extra cheerful, but at times, it can get hard raising them. From refusing certain foods to nap time shenanigans, their antics are endless. While debates have deemed pet parents comparable to actual parents, a woman from Florida could have easily tricked anyone into thinking she was a mother. She was, only not to a human baby. TikTok user Cyan Nicole, who goes by @cyan.nicole on the platform, made a $70 investment for her cats, and the internet is convinced.

In a viral video, attracting nearly 10 million views, Nicole flaunted her smart escape from her cats taking over her bed while sleeping. She had popped into the baby accessory section to get a baby bassinet for her two tabby cats to sleep in. However, she was not completely sure if her pets would embrace it. Fortunately for her, she gleefully recorded her cats adorably sleeping in the bassinet placed right beside her bed. “When you buy a baby bassinet hoping your cats will sleep in there instead of taking up the whole bed and they actually do,” she wrote in an overlay text on the snippet. The baby bassinet was complete with cute soft toys adorned and a soft sheet laid out.

“A mama needs her space. $70 well spent,” Nicole captioned the post. With over 1.9 million likes, the brief video was a hit among viewers. Most people were on board with Nicole’s investment and dropped in a few additional tips for her cats’ comfort. “It’s really true what they say…plants are the new pets, pets are the new children, and kids are the new mortgage,” quipped one person (@pizzanoodles) while another (@csv8tc) mused, “This is scientific proof that cats, are in fact, just sweet little babies.” A viewer (@ssophie_mariee) recommended, “put a heating pad in there and you're golden for life.” “My cats have bunk beds with mini pillows and blankets; they love their beds,” revealed @jensayshi1. Replying to the comment, Nicole jokingly requested not to give her any more ideas.

“If I approached expecting to find a human baby inside, only to discover cats instead, it would genuinely brighten my day,” another pet lover (@lamourdemavie.555) remarked. Another internet user (@h4lli3_) noted, “They feel so fancy knowing you went out and got that for them ahhaaha.” In a 2021 study published in the journal PubMed Central, researchers stated that global fertility rates have been declining for decades, even centuries in some societies. And now, there is a new trend emerging– pet parenting. People are more likely to choose pets as companions rather than raising a child as a family. This shift in society is marked by several factors, including urbanization, increased educational attainment, and a new flexibility in life-course organization.
The world’s largest pet parent study, conducted by Mars Petcare, revealed interesting statistics about the rise in pet parents globally. 56% of people are already pet parents, and more than 37% of them regard their pets as the most important part of their lives. According to Forbes, pet ownership in the U.S. has risen significantly in the past three decades. In 2024, 66% of households had a pet, with more than half of them acquiring their pets during the pandemic. Millennials are the largest percentage, while Gen Z pet owners are believed to follow the same trend.
