Young women are now looking for romance while shopping in Home Depot: 'Get you a...'

Desperate times call for desperate measures. Finding the right person is complicated these days. With all the connectivity, people somehow end up more disconnected. If swiping left and right online wasn’t enough, loveseekers are now heading to Home Depot in search of their potential partner. Recently, TikTok has been witness to an emerging trend among youngsters looking for love at the home improvement retailer. A couple of TikTok creators have shared wild takes on the dating hack, while the comments became a fanfest of humor and debate.

A young woman, Scarlett, who goes by @i_am_sscarlett, posted a video of herself pretending to be lost at Home Depot in hopes that the right man would offer to help. “Can’t find a boyfriend, so I have to act lost in Home Depot,” an overlay text on the video hinted. She frantically looked around the tool aisle, waiting for her future boyfriend to notice her and kick off their romance in the retail store. The post garnered 45,000 views and several comments that matched the energy of the video. “She’d be the first person I talked to,” wrote @benlugo887, and @user1143842967371 said, “Absolutely, I would fall for it. Do you need any assistance?”

Likewise, Nevv (@itsnevv_) portrayed herself walking around Home Depot to find her lover. “Ladies, this is your sign to stop finding these men in the club and go to your nearest Home Depot,” the overlay text stated while the caption teased, “Get you a Bob the Builder.” The snippet was viewed 71,600 times. However, the people had a mixed reaction in the comments. “As an 18-year-old who works at Home Depot, you will not be finding your man at Home Depot,” clarified @god_first_always1913. “Yeah, no. They are mostly taken or married. I embarrassed myself today,” quipped @user3965199679353.
While a fair share of people trying out the trend were women, a TikTok creator, @kajslare4, shared a man’s perspective on the Home Depot dating hack. He claimed to have worked at the retail store a long time ago and said people do end up finding partners here. “Fellas, ladies, come here knowing exactly what they’re looking for,” the creator noted. He encouraged men to help women who seemed to be lost or confused, a trick for them to decode, in a kind and charming way, to crack the test. “To pass the test is to be the person who is present and available to help,” he added.

The post was liked by 5,500 viewers while women shared their opinions in the comments. “I go in there acting like I don’t know anything. I own and operate a whole handyman business,” said @somethingaboutandra. “Nope, I’ve tried, didn’t work,” declared @ayyeo2014. We don’t know about partners, but the internet caught notice of the TikTok trend and tried to decipher the idea behind it. Business Insider reported that Home Depot could be ideal for individuals seeking a specific type of partner. A typical customer at the retailer owns a home or earns a sufficient income, two positive traits that men and women might be looking for in a relationship.
