Bride plans her wedding around her autistic daughter — thus, creating a moment no one will forget

A mother’s love for her children is unconditional, always putting their needs above her own. In one such heartwarming display of love, a mom on TikTok, Jodie Bevan (@jodiebevan08), made sure that her wedding day wasn’t just about her. Instead, she designed her special day around her autistic daughter, Sofia. Knowing how overwhelming such an event can be for Sofia, Jodie ensured that every detail of the day was tailored to make her feel comfortable and included.

Sofia’s mom and her soon-to-be husband took special care to inform all their wedding vendors about Sofia’s needs in advance. They arranged for Sofia’s photos to be taken first, giving her time to relax afterward. It was also a milestone moment as she wore a dress for the first time in over a decade and brought along her favorite teddy bear for comfort. Special attention was given to the dress, ensuring that the fabric wasn't itchy or too long for her to manage on her own. After the photo session, her comfort clothes were ready and waiting, so she could change into something soothing and familiar.

The video also stated, "Hair is a big sensory trigger for Sofia. So, we went for something very simple. No fuss and went at her own pace. The amazing hairdresser even managed to curl it." Sofia's mom even made sure her daughter's makeup was minimal. Although it wasn't necessary, Sofia enjoyed being made up. In another notable gesture, Bevan also packed a bag of all the little things that her daughter liked, including her sensory toys, pens, papers, iPad, and more. Bevan stated, "Weddings aren't about perfection, they're about love."

Highlighting the extra love children with the developmental condition need, inspirational speaker Kerry Magro, who is on the autism spectrum himself, beautifully said, “Autism doesn’t come with an instruction manual. It comes with a family who will never give up.” Bevan and her partner did just that. They made sure that their big day wasn't just special for them, but for Sofia, too. It also shows that when we plan important moments with care, inclusion, and the emotional comfort of our loved ones, we often open the door to building stronger and more meaningful connections. Bevan’s video deeply resonated with thousands of viewers, especially the parents of neurodivergent children.
@jodiebevan08 We planned our wedding day around Sofia's needs as a teen with autism and special needs. From her dress material to a calm hairstyle, to a sensory toy bag. How Sofia would be on our day was my biggest worry but she was honestly incredible and I could be more proud of her 🤍 Thankyou again @BTS | Luxury Wedding Content for capturing all these beautiful videos 🤍. #AutismAcceptance #InclusiveWedding #SofiaStrong #SensoryFriendly #SpecialNeedsParent #NeurodivergentLove #WeddingWithHeart #weddingday #weddingdress #weddingflowers #autismawareness #senmum #senmumlife #fyp ♬ Little Things - One Direction
Social media users teared up over the parents' collective effort for their daughter, as one TikTok user, @slightlyobsessedwithcats, commented, “This is so beautiful. I think it's easy to forget that weddings are about celebrating your family in the way that means the most to you, rather than a show where everything must be done in a certain way.” Another person, @demibrown70, added, “Amazing! I’m getting married next year, and we’ve based everything around our non-verbal son. To us, our wedding is about our little family feeling happy and secure. Sofia is lucky to have you.” Praising the mom's thoughtful gesture, @clairexod also said, “It's a mum's wedding day, but her children are number one. If her children aren't relaxed, she won't enjoy the day. Simple. Beautiful video.”
