Parents often go to great lengths to keep their children safe from the uncertainties of the world outside. Their concern doesn’t end with childhood — they continue to look out for their adult kids as well. Sometimes, they set strict rules, closely question their friends while they're heading out, or just keep a constant check on their activities. In one such incident, a dad on TikTok, Pedro, is now going viral for his pre-movie interview with his daughter’s date, Jared. Social media users have labeled this as a perfect example of overprotective parenting. The video has been reposted by @lightworkers on TikTok.

Before the young couple could leave for their movie date, Grace's dad asked the man she was going out with about their plans for the evening, talking through a ring camera. When Jared mentions that they’re heading to a movie, the overprotective dad interrogates further. Before her date could answer, Grace suddenly peeks into the camera, looking puzzled by the unexpected interrogation from her dad. Pedro asks his daughter to wait a moment and turns his attention back to the young man, repeating his question. This time, the guy answered that they were going to watch 'Toy Story'.

Pedro further asks what time they expect to be back home, and Jared replies they'll probably return before 11. But the dad humorously interrupts, saying he heard 10:30 instead. He also says, "Just make sure you treat her correctly because that’s my first daughter." Jared proved he was a gentleman by saying, “You don’t have to worry, sir.” Pedro also has a chat with his daughter, reminding her that he knows people everywhere who are watching what she’s up to. Moving ahead, as the young couple heads out, the guy opens the car door for the girl, a thoughtful act that her dad genuinely appreciates.

A recent study revealed why some dads are more protective of their daughters than others. As reported by Psychology Today, fathers with higher education or better financial stability often build closer emotional connections with their daughters, making them more protective. Meanwhile, social media users praised the dad’s commitment to his daughter’s safety, while others questioned whether he may have gone too far. One TikTok user, @janiecrawford2002, commented, “I love her dad. As a single mom, I will be the same way. We have to protect our baby girls no matter how old they are.”

Another person, @nonchalant_.x, wrote, “We need more parents like this. Masculine protective men are much needed to help protect daughters from all kinds of predators.” Similarly, @keirakatz chimed in saying, “I miss my dad so much. He passed when I was 21. Even at 41, whenever a guy is mean to me, I wish I could call my dad. My dad would straighten him out for sure.” However, a few others didn’t approve of Pedro’s questioning Jared. One TikToker, @lp084, commented, “That guy looks nice. Dad shouldn't scare him off.” @thisismynameiguess also questioned, “If it were his son, would he do the same? We all know the answer.”
