Toddler mom exposes the drama of her 8-month-old on camera — and her performance is Oscar-worthy

Toddlers and drama are flip sides of the same coin. Every growing kid experiences those dramatic outbursts that parents have to navigate through mindfully. While the internet is rich with hilarious snippets of toddlers putting on an act, one baby girl won the trend. A TikTok mom, Kay Ward (@kaym.ward), exposed her daughter’s tantrums in a viral video where she forcefully tries to squeeze out a few tears from her eyes while the mom anticipates the drama that is to unravel.

“Please tell me, I’m not the only one with this dramatic of a child,” the mother cracks up. Meanwhile, the eight-month-old toddler looks at her mom, clueless, and then prepares to get the show going. The baby daughter squinches her face, hoping a tear would fall out, but in vain. The mom could not resist laughing while watching her little girl's efforts to throw a tantrum. A strange look washed over the baby’s face as her mom laughed at her misery. Yet, she barely gave up, squinching her face repeatedly to get a tear out. “I swore I would never put her on TikTok, but this is too freaking funny,” the mom captioned the post.

The hilarious clip went viral with 207,000 views and comments that matched the energy. “She’s like, ‘Wait a minute, I feel another one coming,’” wrote @makennamcbee, and @kirstiejeanettengel noticed, “Her left eye was moist as if a tear did manage to squeeze out through.” A viewer, @pinkheartgirl52, marked the toddler’s performance as Oscar-worthy. “And the Oscar for the female lead in a dramatic role goes to…” the comment hinted. “The way she’s looking at you like, ‘Why are you telling my secrets?’” wrote @makemoneywith_stacy.

Toddler tantrums are dramatic because of their limited emotional and communication skills. A report by the Raising Children Network explains tantrums as “spectacular explosions” of intense feelings like anger, frustration, sadness, and disorganised behavior. Through the outbursts, the babies express what they are feeling and their needs to their parents and guardians. They are common in children aged between 1 and 3 years. Older children may also show tantrums, which is a sign that they have not been taught or have not learned safe ways to manage their emotions. Stress, hunger, exhaustion, and overstimulation can make it difficult for a child to express themselves properly.

According to Parent Cue, toddlers show tantrums with age to deal with the newfound emotions that they’ve never experienced before. It can be an intense time for the young ones, but parents know better and must teach their children to soothe their tantrums rationally with the “no-drama discipline.” The rule encourages parents to engage their kids instead of enraging them. However, the teaching moment should not be implied amidst a meltdown or tantrum, but after the storm has passed. When they are calm and composed, parenting is what guides toddlers to check their behavior and make positive choices on their own.
